How do I remodel my kitchen? What needs to be updated? Will repainting be enough?

Before remodeling a room in your home, many things go through your mind. Oftentimes, you have one idea of how the project will go, but after hearing advice from the architects and designers, you end up going down another path. You realize that the room needs a total upgrade and you decide to completely renovate the space.
One of our sweetest clients came to us looking to repaint a kitchen, but we reviewed the drawings and relayed our thoughts, they decided to completely transform the kitchen. They came to the conclusion that a coat of paint was not going to be enough for the space. It was better value to give new life and redo the entire culinary space.

The kitchen was actually in a good condition before we started, but the clients told us that it felt dark. The brown cabinetry was clunky and made the space feel a lot smaller than it was. While the countertops and backsplash were in a good condition, the neutral palette only added to the drab color scheme and did not brighten the space. Luckily for us, there was a preexisting large open area in the center of the kitchen begging for a new island. This would not only increase the countertop surface area but the overall functionality of the kitchen. One other feature that ended up working out for us was the preexisting floor plan. Many times we have to update the positioning of the appliances and sink, but in this kitchen the floor plan was already good which helped renovate the space.

The clients decided to go with a custom line from Teoria and wanted to redo the cabinets, countertops, lighting, and flooring. They chose custom millwork cabinetry provided by Teoria in Dove White which instantly brightened and softened the space. The Overlay Raised Panel Cabinet Door makes the kitchen transitional, meaning it provides the contemporary clean feel of a modern kitchen, but the warmth and rustic characteristics of a traditional kitchen. Taller and sleeker cabinets make the space feel bigger while also providing ample amounts of storage space. Smaller details in the cabinetry include new hardware and fixtures as well as soft touch Blum technology protecting against everyday usage and ware.
Perhaps the biggest improvement in the kitchen was the addition of the island. The old layout had a lot of underutilized open space; even with the new island it still feels roomy and open and now allows for a more efficient use of space. The island was painted in a soft blue color which adds color to the room, but does not overtake the space. In addition to extra counter space, the island offers more cabinetry and storage which is great for families.
Finally, the space boasts a new quartz countertop and backsplash which provides unity and sleekness while also being stylish. We also installed a new farmhouse sink which gives more space and functionality to the kitchen.
