Maximizing Style and Storage in Chic Kitchen Renovation
Manhasset, NY

For growing and modernizing families you can never get enough space and storage, which is why this lovely family of five decided to give their old kitchen a makeover. The galley-esque layout of the old kitchen was small, cramped, and dark which was not working with this expanding family.
The old light-wood cabinetry with outdated handles offered little storage space and made it difficult to properly entertain guests. The layout of the kitchen was off-balanced with two antique ovens and modern refrigerator on one wall and other appliances on the other. Lacking flavor and design, the countertops and backsplash were just continuations of the pale yellow wall color. The dingy and drab color only added to the darkness of the space; not to mention, the dull yellow color battled with an adjacent red wall to give a disjointed feeling.
There was nothing in this kitchen to brighten the space so it was time to bring this kitchen into 2018 and make it a space that this wonderful family and their friends could enjoy and show off.

In an older home, it is often a worry that modern and chic will not and cannot work together; however, with new transitional kitchens offered by Teoria and made by Plato Custom Woodwork, you can marry both styles. This kitchen is a prime example of old and new perfectly melding. To start off, the new kitchen immediately feels larger and more spacious.
How did this happen?
By extending the countertop on the left wall and making it L-shaped, Teoria reutilized the old floor space and repositioned the location of the ovens to create more of a flow. The countertop extension maximizes the previous floor space between the two sides. The new L-Shaped countertop houses a brand new sink, a modern microwave, and dishwasher units to maximize the available space. To add light and elegance, Teoria also installed a custom pull-out cabinet unit and a set of transparent glass cabinets doors. Focusing on the cabinetry, you will notice that brand new custom Plato Century doors command the space in a bright and fresh arctic white color.
The transitional line of cabinetry made by Plato combines bucolic elements with a modern twist to fit perfectly into older homes that need an upgrade. On the other side of the kitchen, a brand new cooking station with double stainless steel ovens and a custom hood and range capture your attention. The clean and chic white color continues on the range and is accented by classic white subway tiles with clean grey grout. For added convenience and maximization of space, Teoria added a water pot faucet over the oven. The elegant stainless steel finish perfectly matches the stainless steel fixtures on the white cabinetry. To tie the space together, a warm grey quartz countertop runs throughout the kitchen picking up accents of the appliances and hardware. A large grey tile floor works with the countertop to create a chic, modern, but still classic kitchen. Finally, to brighten the space, new recessed lighting was put throughout the kitchen to replace the once hanging ceiling fan and light fixture. This kitchen perfectly represents the ability of creating a modern kitchen with traditional elements in a functional, accessible, and beautiful way. Teoria has enjoyed this project and wishes the best to the family.
